The Movuno.com Halsall Racing Suzuki team has taken the tough decision to withdraw rider Chrissy Rouse from this weekend’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship races at Assen.
The Geordie had returned to action as the championship made its annual trip to the Dutch track, six weeks after breaking his left hand and right wrist in a crash at Cadwell Park.
But after attempting yesterday’s two free practice sessions, it was clear the 22-year-old was still struggling to ride around the injuries.
Team manager Colin Wright said: “It is with regret that we have had to make this decision. Although he has tried his absolute best to perform, I, in consultation with Chrissy and team owner Martin Halsall, have decided to withdraw Chrissy from this weekend’s event at Assen.
“It became very clear yesterday that Chrissy is still not 100 per cent fit to ride following his Cadwell Park crash and in spite of his efforts on Friday, we have decided that he is not yet strong enough to handle the Movuno.com Halsall Racing Suzuki.
“I appreciate this will come as a big blow to our fans, but our priority will always be the health and welfare of Chrissy and all of the other riders on track.
“It’s a disappointing situation for everyone, but we believe that Chrissy needs time to heal fully, and that it is not worth risking further injury just for one weekend.”
The team will continue to run in the Dickies British Supersport Championship races this weekend with Kyle Ryde aboard its Yamaha R6.
