Chrissy Rouse will sit out of the next round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as he recovers from a crash at Cadwell Park last weekend.
The Movuno.com Halsall Racing Suzuki squad and the Geordie rider have confirmed he will not race at Silverstone to allow time for his injuries to heal.
Rouse crashed out of the first race at the Lincolnshire track last Sunday afternoon, suffering a broken left hand, broken right wrist and some concussion.
And although the 22-year-old had been hoping to be back on track for the next event in a fortnight, both team and rider have taken the decision to allow him to heal properly.
“Chrissy and I have had a meeting and decided that he won’t be riding at Silverstone,” explained Team Manager Colin Wright. “The most important thing for him right now is to get himself fit, strong and ready again before he thinks about riding.
“It’s too much of a risk at this stage to ride carrying these injuries. Chrissy has the rest of his career ahead of him and we both agree that giving himself time to heal now is the best choice.
“We both believe that he needs to be 100 per cent fit when he comes back. That could be at Assen or even for the last round at Brands Hatch in October, and he will return to action as soon as he is ready, but is under no pressure to do so until we are all satisfied he is fit.”
Rouse is currently recovering at home from the weekend’s crash, and admits that while he is disappointed to be missing Silverstone, he agrees it is the correct decision.
“At the moment I’m just resting up and doing as little as possible to give the bones a good chance to heal, and although it’s a shame, I know this is the right thing to do,” he said.
“Rushing back would be stupid and it’s important that I give the injuries as long as they need to heal properly.
“Colin and I have had a good chat and I trust his opinion when it comes to this kind of thing. It’s good to know the pressure is off to rush my recovery. I want to feel strong and race-ready when I come back and I know with a few weeks resting my hands, I’ll be in a much better position to come back fighting later in the year.”
